Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
