Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
